A letter from Stephen Joseph to Mervyn Edwards, who took over from William Smettem as Director of the Library Theatre in 1955.
The letter is the first to confirm an intention of a second season for the Library Theatre and also notes the extent of the losses sustained in the first season (which were not unexpected).
It also shows Stephen's faith in Scarborough as a home for the theatre and for the lvel of support which he feels that can be built. Six decades later, theatre-in-the-round still thrives in Scarborough supporting this belief.
This document is held in the Stephen Joseph Theatre Collection at Scarborough Library. The website is grateful to Scarborough Library and its staff for their help and support.
